Porto, Portugal

En el mes de junio tuve la bendición de visitar la "Igreja de Cristo" en Oporto, Portugal, donde nos reunimos para un seminario y el domingo para el culto. El seminario, acerca del liderazgo en la iglesia, lo hicimos el sábado por la tarde, con la presencia de varios hermanos y algunos visitantes.

In June I had the blessing of visiting the Igreja de Cristo, in Porto, Portugal, where we met for a seminar on Saturday and the Sunday worship. The seminar on Leadership in the Church took place on Saturday afternoon with participants from the local church and a few visitors.

"El Señor es mi pastor"

Los Salmos son en su mayoría oraciones o cantos. Son ruegos de perdón, como también son expresiones de gozo. Hay también mucha perplejidad, de parte del autor, por pensar que Dios le había abandonado. Todo parece estar coordinado perfectamente a la condición humana de gozo un día y tristeza el otro.

The Psalms are mainly prayers or songs. They are cries for forgiveness, as they are also expressions of joy. There is also plenty f perplexity, on the part of the writer, to think that God had forsaken him. All seems to be perfectly coordinated to the human condition of having joy one day and sadness the next.

Cuando leemos los Salmos, lo que debe ser una disciplina diaria, hay que hacerlo con detenimiento, disfrutando cada uno de los versos, subrayando los que se identifican con nosotros, buscando identificarnos con el autor. Los Salmos, por ser Palabra inspirada de Dios, nos encuentran dondequiera que estemos en nuestra jornada como creyentes.

As we read the Psalms, which should be a daily discipline, we should do it slowly, enjoying each verse, underscoring those that we identify with, trying to identify with the author. The Psalms, as the word of God, will find us wherever we may be in our spiritual journey.

Los estudios de los Salmos que comparto en este sitio son sobretodo un tributo a ese libro bíblico que me ha bendecido tan ricamente. Disfrútelos en el nombre del Señor.

The lessons on the Psalms I share in this site are, above all, a tribute to this biblical book that has blessed me so richly. Enjoy them in the Lord's name.

Honor a un hermano

Escribe Pablo a los Romanos
"…en cuanto a honra, preferindoos los unos a los otros" (Rom 12:10.) No tenemos una idea clara acerca del verso arriba, pero sabemos que tiene que ver con honrar o reconocer al hermano que trabaja para el Señor en situaciones y circunstancias difíciles.

Paul writes to the Romans: “Honor one another above yourselves” (12:10). We do not have a clear idea about this verse but we know it has to do with honoring the brother who works for the Lord in difficult situations and circumstances.

David Casey (foto), su esposa Janice e hijos, desde hace muchos años han auxiliado y bendecido obras misioneras mientras trabajaba para Union Carbide en Costa Rica, Brasil y Puerto Rico. Ahora, en su jubilación, se dedica a la obra del Señor en México, yendo varias veces a Chihuahua para animar a los hermanos. También sirve a la iglesia de Cristo de Granbury, Texas, como anciano y miembro del comité de misiones.

David Casey (pictured above), his wife Janice and their children have for many years helped and blessed mission works in Costa Rica, Brazil and Puerto Rico while working as an executive for Union Carbide. Now in his retirement, David has been helping the Lord’s work in Mexico, going to Chihuahua many times to encourage our brethren. He also serves as and elder and in the Missions Committee at the Granbury Church of Christ.

Los días 26 al 29 de Octubre, fuimos a Chihuahua Chris Frizzell, David Casey y un servidor. A David le buscaban hermanos para escuchar su opinión a muchas de sus inquietudes y a compartir sus sueños en el reino de Dios. David les atendía con mucho amor y cariño.

From October 26 through 29th, Chris Frizzell (Associate Minister), David Casey and I, traveled to Chihuahua. While there, local Christians who wanted to know his opinion on several issues and share their dreams for the Kingdom sought David. David handled them with love and tenderness.

Tampico, México

Daniel Martinez, egresado de la escuela de predicación de Torreón, se mudó con su familia a
Tampico en enero de 1989. Daniel pasó por varias pruebas después de la mudanza. Su esposa se enfermó gravemente cuando nació su hijita, luego cuando todo parecía bien, Daniel perdió su sostenimento. Y por tres años trabajó de albañil mientras su esposa vendía tamales de puerta en puerta para mantener la familia. Para más información acerca de Tampico haz clique abajo:

Daniel Martinez, a graduate of Torreon School of Preaching, moved with his family to Tampico in January 1989. Daniel had very serious trials after his move. His wife became very ill when their daughter was born, then when things seemed to be going well again, he lost his support. And for three years Daniel worked as bricklayer while his wife sold tamales door-to-door to support their family. For more about Tampico, click below:

Chiapas, México

En la primavera de 1974 hicimos nuesstro primer viaje a Tapachula, la ciudad en el extremo sur de México. Tardamos 3 días y medio para llegar. Miguel Zuñiga, ministro de la Iglesia de Cristo en Laredo, Texas, fue mi compañero de viaje. Nos detuvimos en Torreón (Centro norte, de México), donde recojimos a cuatro estudiantes de la escuela de predicación local.

In the spring of 1974 we made our first journey to Tapachula, Mexico’s southernmost city. It took us 3, ½ days. Miguel Zuniga, currently a Church of Christ minister in Laredo, was with my traveling companion. We made one stop in Torreon (North Central Mexico), where we picked up four students from the local school of preaching.

Sabíamos que, aquella época no había Iglesias de Cristo reuniéndose en aquel estado.

Brasil

Invitado por Antenor Gonçalves y su esposa Phyllis, misioneros de la iglesia de Itu, en São Paulo, pasé ocho horas con ocho parejas (cuatro de ellas ancianos brasileños y respectivas esposas) el día 17 de agosto, compartiendo ideas acerca del liderazgo en la iglesia. La participación de cada persona presente hizo la reunión muy agradable. Una reunión similar a esa la están preparando para el año proximo. (Haz clique abajo para más informaciones acerca de Brasil)

Invited by Antenor Gonçalves and his wife Phyllis, ministers of the church in Itu, city in Sao Paulo state, I spent eight hours with eight Christian couples, (four of them Brazilian elders and wives), sharing ideas about church leadership on Aug. 17th. The participation of every person present made the meeting very enjoyable. Another meeting similar to this is in being planned for next year.

Honduras

Tras muchas invitaciones de hermanos de Honduras decidí salir rumbo Tegucigalpa el 28 de septiembre. El propósito del viaje era doble: Presentar un seminario a los líderes de iglesias locales y enseñar en el Instituto Baxter.

After many e-mails and calls from Christians in Tegucigalpa I made my way there on September 28th.The purpose of this trip was two-fold: to conduct a seminar for local Christian leaders and teach at the Baxter Institute.
